Product Description
As I sit at my computer surrounded by pictures of “Rebel” and “Blue Lady” recording memories of my sailing life, I know just how lucky I have been. Had I been just a few years earlier in arriving on this earth, I would have missed the chance of a middle class working stiff to own such boats. Only one generation earlier had no opportunity to own and sail the boats I have known.
Author J. Howard Williams experienced a variety of jobs in his lifetime, from a CPA to a marina manager to a boat salesman. But through it all, his heart has belonged to sailing.
Journey with Williams through a lifetime of sailing adventures in Love at First Sight. On his sailboats Sooner, Sooner II, Rebel, Rebel II, and Blue Lady, he sailed well over 100,000 good and bad miles. On the water of Galveston Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas and the Atlantic coast from 1950 to 1990, Williams experienced and now shares a lifetime of joy for and fascination with the world of sailing.

Always Trust a Sailor
By John C. Heidbrink
Having known the author for nearly a lifetime I was surprised at the drama and clarity of the writing, from technical sailing terms to spontaneous exclamation.I am glad love is in the title for only a mariner in love with the sea could write as the author has. Something haunting about the book. Couldn't put it down for one thing. But then there was the sea and the adventure of ships and those who love them.

One never tires of talking about sailing
By Maarten (TX)
Sailing on Galveston Bay and occasionally the Gulf of Mexico brings out many stories from most sailors. Few have the time and the talent to sit down and write these stories down. J. Howard Williams' book tells the stories as if you are in the yacht club sitting at the fireplace reminiscing about good times on the water and good times in life. This is a great read with many learning points on sailing and navigation blended into a story of a very interesting life. The language is brisk and honest with a good sense of humor and self-depreciation. There are some good strategy tips for the Harvest Moon Regatta as well.Living and sailing in the area makes for many moments of recognition from the Houston Yacht Club to Lakewood and from Galveston Bay to the ICW. The fact that the author sailed a Carl Alberg design (35 sloop) as well as I do currently (37 yawl) made for an extra connection. For everyone that sails Galveston Bay, Gulf of Mexico and beyond with an interest in how yachting started before it became as popular as today this is a highly recommended book.

A Man for All Sailings
By Carolyn Graham
my only jibe at this book has to do with living in Seabrook at the time some the incidents occurred. It would have been neat to hear some of the other big sailors tell about Howard. He is a consummate competitive sailor as well as the man anyone would most want to be with on a leisurely visit to the Bahamaian out islands. He is witty but a bit self-deprecating about his many talents. Every sailor i know would have gone with him anywhere, would have hoped to be invited. His time running the Seabrook Shipyard was a gift to the local mariners. Reading this book, i am back in a place i loved, acquainted with a man of immense sailing standing, and wishing we were all there again. Nothing but pure love could make a wife with Sue's chronic seasickness as eager as he to sail away. Sue was a wonder and a delight. They made a fine pair. I suspect Howard touched many lives he wasn't aware of, always for the good. For anyone reading this and thinking there might be exageration about events from time to time, 'taint so. It all happened, and so much more. bravo, Captain Williams. Like all you do, you give everything to the job. We looks to you and we lifts a glass, and we thank you kindly for being such fine company. Slainte, Ambrose
