The emphasis is on the history and economic status of each builder and the engines and drive systems employed.The subtitle of this book references the move upmarket by most of the boat manufacturerssince the publication of the first Ker-Splash! in 2002. Both editions cover all the affordable recreational boat models, but many more brands and boat types have been included in this later edition.

A Comprehensive Consumer Reports-type Book for Boaters

I personally know the author of Ker-Splash 2 - The High Performance Powerboat Book and I have read a pre-released copy of the complete book. It is truly fun-to-read and very informative. The facts and information presented are interspersed with fun, light-hearted stories of boating experiences the author and his friends had as kids. This book contains 135 large black and white photos, is 152,000 words and includes three charts. It's about the companies, the engines and drive systems, and skis, wakeboards, and other water toys. It is a cross between a new boat buyers guide, a used boat buyers guide, a historical reference book, and a pseudo Consumer Reports. Ker-Splash 2 covers the wide range of historical and contemporary recreational power boating in the red-white-and-blue U.S.A.

Not quite what I expected

The title " the high performance power boat book" suggests that I am holding in my hand a book about fire breathing off-shores and speedboats that I could never afford, cool! But when I got into the book I found sections devoted to pontoons, skiers, wake boats, deck boats, cruisers.... Boats that I personally don't consider "high performance" disappointed, I read it anyways and I was pleasantly surprised with a fun easy to read book about boating and the boats of boating. There is a section about the ridiculous off-shores that I love but it defiantly leaves me wanting more... I am keeping this book near by though since you never know when you might encounter an unfamiliar brand. This book really is a wealth of knowledge.
