High Quality Jointed Tiller Extender

I use this extender on my 2.5 hp Suzuki outboard motor mounted on a square stern canoe. The extender enables me to move the center of gravity forward when I'm solo in the canoe; otherwise the bow rides to high. The extender provides a very comfortable means of steering, compared to an awkward reach behind my back. This adjustable model can be operated:(1)as a straight extension of the existing handle up to 52", or;(2) as a flexible extender by activating the "knuckle joint". The "straight" mode doesn't provide as quick of a response as does the knuckle-joint mode. However, using the extender in the knuckle-joint mode requires a little practice to get accustomed to and should be done in calm open water at low speeds. Installation: I had to remove the rubber gasket in the clamp to allow the clamp to fit over the rubber handle on my Suzuki. I just pulled it out with a pair of pliers. By the way...the clamp knobs can be unscrewed to the point they will fall off and they don't float. This tiller extender is very well made and sturdy. I'm glad I got the model with the flexible knuckle-joint, otherwise I would have been dissatisfied with a fixed, straight extension.

If you have been looking at extensions for your kicker motor this is the one to buy. The extra u-joint makes it the best in regards to being able to stand anywhere in the boat to control it. The telescoping handle gives you more options and control without limiting the movement from fixed extensions. Spend a little extra and get one that you wont soon regret.

U-Joint Model is a Good Choice

I got this to use on my 14' Livingston boat with a 9.9 Force Gamefisher outboard. I had to remove the rubber grip on the outboard tiller as well as the rubber insert on the tiller extension handle for it to fit. I've only used it once but without the rubber grips, it fell off easily. I will need to find something to wrap the tiller with to provide more grip without bulk.That being said, I found the U-Joint fairly easy to learn and I could sit further forward to better balance the boat to keep the bow from rising up too high. It was easy to steer with only slight movement of the extension. You can control the length by pulling out the inside center pole the catch on several possible stop points on the outer pole. If you move the outside pole over the U-Joint, there is a stop point so you can make it a fixed extension at the shortest length.One other problem I found is that when I sit further forward, I can't reach the shut off switch or the gear shift lever. This means you can't stop the motor quickly if needed. I will have to figure out if I can control these without walking back to the motor.
