bimini book owner and home owner

i use this book all the time. My family owns property at the Bimini Bay Resort. We purchased it almost three years ago and we use it on a regular basis. We love it so much, we are currently selling our two story treehouse loft; because we decided to upgraded and purchase a four bedroom house on the private island. must have for first time

This was our first time crossing over to Bimini. We know other people that have done it but the information we learned from the book far exceeded anything our fellow boater friends told us. The section on clearing customs and immigration made our trip a breeze.

Product Description

Sharks, white sand beaches, gold, greed and romance all add up to high seas adventure in the fabled Caribbean. Ex-Navy pilot Jack Carlton operates his 90-foot charter schooner out of English Harbour, Antigua. With his trusty mate Cobb and beautiful cook Megan, Jack sails the Fandango through squalls and reef-strewn waters to an appointment with fate on remote Aves Island. On a routine dive expedition, an old Spanish document written by a 19th century monk comes to light and his passengers turn out to be more than just tourists. Long lost treasure spells trouble for Jack and his crew as they find themselves unwillingly embroiled in a plan to salvage the gold. Marooned on the lonely sand spit in the middle of the Caribbean, Jack and Megan survive a hurricane only to face certain death on the waterless Caribbean Cay.

Guns, Gold and True Friends

FANDANGO'S GOLD is excitement! It delivers! "Mind you, there were no guarantees in the Hurricane Lottery. Whenever things looked too good to be true, they usually were, and when both Patch and Jack drank, they romanced women and got into fights. The difference was that Patch scored more often."These words, lifted from the pages of "Fandango's Gold" (pages 13, 47) are but a teaser of the colorful language writ by Captain "Lou" Boudreau about the schooner "Fandango", her crew and her adventures in the Caribbean. Sea lovers have been hungering for new sea adventures by a master storyteller, and "by Jove" in Capt. Boudreau, we have one. It's no longer necessary to go back to the time of Admiral Nelson to sail a tall ship off the dock at Nelson's Dockyard. Fandango calls the "Dockyard" home and Capt. Jack spins the tale of beautiful women, the search for ancient Spanish gold, nasty characters, able seamen and true friends.The book is so exciting I found myself reading slower and slower near the end, I didn't want it to end. Excellent book about an unspoiled place

DIARY OF AN AMAZON JUNGLE GUIDE is an often light-hearted and self-effacing account of Paul Beaver's experiences as a guide and lodge owner in the Peruvian Amazon. But beneath the levity lies an abiding love and concern for the region and its future. By all means, read this absorbing book for its adventure and humor, but be prepared to emerge as a dedicated advocate for rainforest conservation. 4-1/2 stars.

Next Best Thing to Being There

The jungle is not for the faint of heart, but it IS a fascinating, ever-changing place full of unexpected surprises at every turn. This is a great book, full of humor and adventure in the unspoiled wilderness of the Amazon Jungle. Paul has a passion for conservation and teaching others to love the jungle as much as he does.

An Inspirational Book

Paul Beavers' book inspired me to take my entire family of 8 to visit the Amazon. His accounts of the jungle experience proved to be accurate as well as inspirational. I wanted to go back a second time before I got there the first time. Paul's passion for the Amazon area, along with his visions are evident in his writing. essential interesting reading for the independant traveller

Although I haven't yet travelled to Ethiopia, I have read the book several times to enable me to plan an itinerary. The book is essential reading for those wishing to travel to Ethiopia. ANY information on Ethiopia is scarce and the excellent conversational style of the author makes for an enjoyable and, at times, humorous read. Compared to other travel books on Ethiopia, this book is unsurpassed in providing positive down-to-earth information without glossing over the negative aspects of travel in this country. I am sure the 'mud maps' of major towns, accommodation and dining out information will prove invaluable to the independant traveller. And if you are interested in wildlife the author obviously has a sound knowledge of this topic, particularly the birdsof East Africa. He provides comprehensive summaries, scattered through the body of the text, on the birdlife (and other wildlife) you can expect to see in different habitats of the country.

Best of a small bunch

This is the most recent and most useful of the small number of guidebooks for Ethiopia available in the U.S. Descriptions of places to see were clear and informative, and the sections on how to get around, where to stay, good places to eat, and other tips for each town were accurate and well-researched. This book also contains useful sketch maps of many towns; these are now FAR more accurate than those in older editions, and I found them easier to use than similar maps found in other guides. There is also a thoughtful section on general issues related to travel in Ethiopia. I found this far superior to the other commonly available guides I own for information on Addis Ababa, the so-called "historical circuit," and the lowland desert areas (information on this last region is pretty scarce, but this book has more than others). The book is focused on providing useful travel information and not on long descriptions or photographs; if an informative guidebook to use while travelling is what you're looking for, this one is your best bet. (Be sure to get the newest edition, though-- the previous ones weren't nearly as good!)

Indispensable Guide to Ethiopia

I am planning my third trip to Ethiopia, and Philip Briggs' 4th edition of Ethiopia: The Bradt Travel Guide has proved to be indispensable. I have used his previous guidebook editions on my trips, and his information and tips are always exactly right. As an extra added bonus, he is an entertaining and perceptive writer, and the books are fun to read as well. This is the only book a traveler needs for a trip to Ethiopia.

The Most Comprehensive Diving Guide to Indonesia

Covers virtually all areas with diving facilities, from popular ones like Bali or North Sulawesi to little-known gems like the Tukangbesi Islands of South-East Sulawesi or the Raja Ampat Islands of West Papua. No information for snorkellers though.

I've dived much of the territory this book covers, including Bali, Komodo, Raja Ampat, and Wakatobi, and in my experience the Periplus guides are about as good as they get. Just remember that one rotten reef bomber can destroy a pristine dive site in five minutes, so you can't depend on any given dive site being what this book describes. Still, you should have a book before you go there--many areas have treacherous currents (a requirement for the dazzling biodiversity we enjoy) and other tricky circumstances, so you shouldn't go unprepared.But Indonesia has, arguably, the best diving on Earth, and this book is the best intro I know of.One tip: Grand Komodo Tours, based in Bali, has liveaboards in many of these areas. My wife & I have gone on three of them and loved the prices and the expertise we got. Don't use expat divemasters! We only use divemasters who grew up there. You're often a long, long ways from help, and it takes locals to really know the water conditions in many of these places.One other tip: the book recommends Tulamben in Bali for good diving, and so it is--but the divemasters at the German resort there have been grabbing all the nudibranchs they can find and moving them in front of their resort. So if you want to find nice nudibranchs there, you know where to find them now.That's the sort of advice no book can give you--even the Periplus ones. So always supplement your book-learning with extended conversations with knowledgeable locals.If you aren't a diver yet, try Permuteran in Bali. It seemed to have the easiest conditions.
